Hello everyone ,I haven't been here in years but I am looking for a
pure white, white, bright, high gloss glaze as white as possible cone
6-7 oxidation . I know Tin white is usually the answer but I'm thinking
about making it a little more cost effective if possible. But if you
have a good tin glaze please share with me . I've tried 6 tests and the
tin either disappears or it is grey's or isn't glossy enough. Thanks.

I am fond of Hansen's 5X20 with zircopax
20 frit 3134
20 custer feldspar
20 wollastonite
20 flint/silica
20 EPK

add 10 % zircopax

this is pure glossy white, a fat white that will obscure details but is
lovely on smooth srfaces

Schwieger=3D92s Liner =3D96 cone 4-14
50 Laguna borate =3D09
50 Plastic Vitrox clay
add up to 15% zircopax

boron will affect your color response when using other colorant oxides
but the white is great

attached image #1642 - this is thick application with no zircopax added

Gillespie borate or gersteley borate probably work okay too

Jon...

I used the base from Ron Roy's Licorice (that is, without the colorants),
then threw in some zircopax and tin. Worked very well. I'm sure it would
work with zircopax alone.

Take care.

In my experience with tests containing opacifiers to obtain a white gloss
glaze, I find that Tin Ox. will more often yield a *soft* white, where as
Zicopax will result in a 'harder* white, or brighter. I use anywhere
between 5 to 10 percent of either opacifier. You can also mix different
ratios of both Tin and Zirocpax up to 12 percent to see if you get the whit=
e
you are looking for. There are several test glazes on my Flickr site of
glaze pages. Look for the glossy whites. Go to www.alisapots.dk and at th=

My findings are consistent with Alisa's. I am currently using 16%
zircopax to whiten my glaze at ^04. Finally used up my stash of tin ox
and went to buy more and decided to stick with zircopax. I didn't know
you could safely use that much but it seems to work fine. At ^10 my
white uses zircopax but it is by volume so I don't know exactly how much.
It is a good amount, probably about 10%.
