There is a wonderful pottery exhibit of of 3 generations from the
Hamada family in Boston at the Pucker Gallery on Newbury Street until
July 18th. http://www.puckergallery.com/exhibitions.html Fortunately
all the pieces in the show were shipped before the earthquake. I was
delighted to learn that I was allowed to touch the pieces, turn them
over and feel their weight. Tomoo Hamada ( the grandson) gave a humble
talk thru an interpreter about the family history and then showed
slides of the devastating affects of the Earthquake on the kilns in
Mashiko.

If you make it to the gallery, ask to see the second floor pottery
too....... its quite a massive collection of pottery by Brother
Thomas. His depth and breath of glaze knowledge shows in how he uses
glaze on his work. Its a stunning collection of quite a variety of
glaze types and colors. I was in glaze study heaven!

Pucker Gallery is pleased to announce the newly established Mashiko
Potters Fund. In conjunction with Mudflat Pottery Studio, a nonprofit
in Somerville, we will raise money to exclusively aid the potters and
potteries in Mashiko, Japan. For information, http://www.puckergallery.com/=
