Hello:

I am looking for studio at which to take beginning ceramics classes in San
Francisco. Does anyone know of studios offering lessons?

Thanks!

Judith,

The best deal in California is the Community College -- $39 for a 16
week class. In Sacramento there's a $10 lab fee.

Other ideas: there's quite a few studios down in the Hunter's Point and
out in the Mission District, maybe something there; also check the big
ceramics supply store that's on 5th Street just off Harrison going south
-- it's next door to a hole-in-the-wall cafe on the NW corner.

You might begin by trying San Francisco City (Community) College. It
has some fine teachers. Also, check out the ceramics studio at Ft.
Mason, Building B, Ground Floor, West End. Then there is the Sharon
Art Studio Association on 1032 Lirving St. Suite 150 (415) 925-1930 and
Ruby's Clay Studio, 552-A Noe St. (415) 558-9819. These ought to give
classes or provide leads to studios which do.

Ceramic classes are available in Oakland!

I think the best ceramics studio in the East Bay is Studio One. The cost of
the class is $75.00 for a resident (of Oakland) for an 8 week class. For
the fee, we provide clay, high, medium and low fire glazes plus great
instruction from several terrific teachers.

I have some information on the classes on the website I am creating. It
currently lists times, dates and teachers in the ceramics department:

Studio One Art Center
365 45th Street
Oakland, CA 94609
