Ann
Raku crackle is all about clay/glaze fit. About all you can do is try
different glazes till one does what you want. You can also change glaze
thickness, firing temp, rate of heating, rate of cooling, pot thickness,
etc. Pot shape matters cause it effects cooling of the glaze. If you are
glaze savvy you can make small modification to the glaze that may or may no=
t
have big effects on crackling (easiest is add or subtract silica)
Sometimes going to a lower shrinkage clay can result in better crackle.

Suggest you do a lot of reading, followed by research, with keeping good
notes.

What do you mean by taking color well? Are we talking smoke or are you
using dyes or metals oxides in a secong firing.
