Hi List

My Son the Lineman has joined crews working on restoring power to the south=
=3D
; currently in Georgia by all accounts. He's based up here in the Northwest=
=3D
, but goes where he's sent. He even got his passport updated for Japan. So =
=3D
you Georgia potters keep a look out for those crews and say, 's up, son, t=
=3D
o my Ben!

When I was living in UK -- Birmingham at the time in early 80s-- there was =
=3D
a story on the news that a forgery ring operating in one of Her Majesty's p=

risons had been broken up. They had a very successful operation on the go f=
=3D
orging Bernard Leach pots! I wish I had more details as to whom was in char=
=3D
ge of that prison's craft dept. Does Steve Mills have any more to add to th=
=3D
at story or was it the ubiquitous "silly season" wheeze? Where are they now=
=3D
?

Well, here's some clay stuff to keep this posting from being completely OT.=
=3D
I know there's powdered sugar consistency of lithium and also the granular=
=3D
sugar lith of which I've some to get through. Some find the granular smoos=
=3D
hing around in the sieve and wonder what next? There's been advice on Claya=
=3D
rt. I even tried the boiling water idea yesterday to make it more soluble. =
=3D
But reading through the usual Eye Candy mags last night -- CT and PMI my Bi=

g Reward for slogging down to Seattle Pottery Supply for...supplies -- one =
=3D
of them had a discussion of lithium -- both versions -- and color pix of t=
=3D
est tiles. I guess I'm just going to continue to dump the granular lith dir=
=3D
ectly into the mix and not bother with belting down I-5 to SPS for the powd=
=3D
ered lith. The usual glaze I use the lith in is an opaque-ish base glaze (d=
=3D
epends on thickness with a great break on Vashon Red) for my big busily sli=
=3D
p decorated urns. Don't notice the spotting. I won't mind the color spots =
=3D
especially in these new glazes I'm making up which are for a slow down fire=
=3D
schedule and I want to encourage crystal formation. Sort of like when usin=
=3D
g the salt sprinkled on a wet wash in watercolor technique. Then I bought =
=3D
Dry Glazes by Jeremy Jernegan Wow! Those toxic glazes. A chilling read for =
=3D
RR, JH and Mel! Some of the work I make is not domestic ware and always loo=
=3D
king for The Tingle Factor. Aren't we all? Test, test, test. Happy May Day=
=3D
.
