Curtis,
I tried posting this to Clayart, but my account information seems to
be out of date. Anyway; the key to leveling a wheel is to support it
on a triangular base. Level two corners, then level the third corner
to them. Leveling a rectangle is possible, but much harder.

The details are as follows. I built a wooden stand out of 2 x 6's for
my wife's wheel so she could throw standing up, She has an old
Shimpo. Conveniently, there were three 3/8" holes already drilled in
the base of the wheel, in a triangular arrangement. I put big bolts
through them, top down, that is with the bolt heads up. Then I
screwed a nut on each bolt all the way up to the wheel base to hold
the bolt tight. Then, I screwed a big wing nut onto each bolt with
the wings up, screwing it an inch or two up. I had drilled vertical
holes in the wooden base to receive the bolts coming out of the wheel
base. The bolts rest in the holes supporting the wheel, and by
screwing the wing nuts up or down I can level the wheel very
precisely, wherever it is in the studio.

Again, the key to leveling something easily is to contrive a way to
do it on a triangular base.

Best wishes,
