curing a mizzou castable kiln?

A good friend is desperate to get her new kiln firing as soon as=3D20
possible. She has
received differing advice about the necessity of curing it before the=3D20
first firing. It is
a soda kiln with a castable arch and hard brick. One potter says that=3D20
at their art
center they cast it and fired normally a couple days later. The=3D20
vendor, High Temp
Northwest, has suggested that she do a 50 degree per hour rise to 1500=3D2=
0
(30 hours)
curing fire to drive out all occulted water - then up to 2250 to cure=3D20
the cast arch. She isn't
sure she can hold her burners back to that schedule, but if necessary=3D20
could use her old
home made burners.

Her questions: Anyone out there with experience with Missou castable? =3D2=
0

How did you treat the cast kiln components=3D2=
0
in your first firing?
Did you do a slow curing firing of the=3D20
empty kiln?

I will pass on any answers and I know she will appreciate any help you=3D2=

can give.

Thank you,

I would definitely do what Mizzou says. If you think bisque pots explode =
=3D
if fired=3D20
too fast imagine a 3 - 5 inch thick cement explosion would do! It could k=

ill you.
