Hi Liz,
I had an email started and my computer locked up ! ARGH ! and
I have one foot out the door headed to NCECA..........so this will
be short and sweet .. but if you email me after Sunday , I can detail
it more for you .
You only need minute quantities of chinapaint. It is applied in
very thin washes like watercolor, so 1 vial of chinapaint could
probably cover an entire room .
There are no suppliers in Canada that I know of... Most of the
Canadians get their stuff from the US... try www.rynnechina.com or
www.jaynehoustonproducts.com ... but there are plenty of others..
For pink, there is a wide range of gold based pinks that go
anywhere from very pale to burgundy ... They will be a little more
pricey than normal chinapaints because of the gold content.. ( about
6 to 25 bucks depending on the gold content ... most other paints are
in the 3 to 5 range... )
Orange is a little more problematic: most vivid oranges, reds and
yellows are cad-sel colors which dont play nicely with other colors.
The slightest bit of contamination from another color and your
cad-sel will fire out completely or to an ugly grey which cant be repaired.=
.
It is possible to mix a nice orange using an iron based red like
blood red, yellow red, light red or pompadour...but you have to use a
special yellow called " mixing yellow" .. When you order it, make
sure you specify that it needs to be a mixing yellow that works well
with iron reds.. Rynne's Mixing yellow is a good one .. Its a thing
peculiar to china paint that most yellows , even if they arent
cad-sel will eat away most reds ( even if the reds arent cad-sel.
Mixing yellow is designed to work with iron based reds... ( NOT with
cad-sels though .. Cad-sels can only be mixed with other cad-sels.. )
.... and there are some nice pre-mixed oranges out there that arent
cad-sel... If you ask the dealer ( the girls at Rynnes and Lisa at
Jayne Houston will help you ) for a good orange that isnt a cad, they
ll be able to recommend something for you if you dont want to go the
mixing route..
Any questions.. feel free to email me .
And now Im off to NCECA!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
