Hi Mark,

Here is a blog that was forwarded to me about a potter in Japan. Definitel=
y
worth reading his accounts during the first hours and days of the
earthquake. It is very moving:

There is the Traditional Craft group, http://www.kougei.or.jp/
There are literally hundreds of groups that are local groups of potters org=
anized into co-ops. You will need a good grasp of Japanese to deal with the=
m.
If you are looking to help an individual potter I might suggest contacting =
Robert Yellin as he knows a lot of potters and might
know of one that had their studio washed away.
I am doing an effort that I have a post about here, http://togeii.wordpress=
.com/ At this point I am moving toward a memorial type of piece with the na=
mes of those who died. I would love to hear ideas to make my effort better.
I would like to say I think the coverage in the non-Japanese press has been=
sensationalist and way over the
top. I would like to recommend this site for a cooler headed rundown on th=
e nuclear situation, http://mitnse.com/

l got my information from Facebook, but am now including a link to
Kristen Kieffer's website (I hope s he won't mind) BECAUSE she
presents an excellent summary of the auction/event. The auction will
take place from 8 p.m. 3/24 through 8 p.m. 3/27.

I think following this link will explain better than I could.

I don't know about a CERF (Craft and Emergency Relief Fund) organization in
Japan.
And I think it is still too early. They are still in a big crisis and it is
still evolving, like more explosions at the Fukushima plant and rising
radiation levels. And there was just an earthquake near Mount Fuji (volcano
eruption?!!) and people who can leave, are leaving. No thinking about
rebuilding yet. I was supposed to return on March 22nd, but will stay here
in the US now for a while. Have to see what will all happen! Very, very
scary!
Read Euan's blog and you will understand:
http://euancraig.blogspot.com/2011/03/nothing-to-fear.html

We just can pray and have our heart and love go out to them and wish them
strength with the situation and hope that they will stay safe.

Anyone on Facebook, check out "Handmade for Japan." BEAUTIFUL work has been=
donated and will be auctioned on Ebay on 3/24. This is almost all wonderfu=
l pottery and all proceeds will go to help the people of Japan.

Here is a link if you are interested:
