When I encountered my first Alpine forced air updraft in a teaching post th=
ere was an operations manual for it that I used to initially learn to fire =
it. It has been over 12 years since I've fired one, but I seem to remember =
that it calls for a light blue flame to waft out of those bottom side ports=
for good reduction. If you don't get any more knowledgeable advice, let me=
know and I'll see if I've got something buried in my old teaching files. A=
lso I just Googled Alpine Kilns and see that they are still in the business=
, you might contact them and get a manual for your kiln; all the Alpines I'=
ve had experience with had some sort of designation plate that gave the mod=
el and serial number that you might need to get the correct manual. -Rimas
