Northern Arizona University Wood Fire Workshops, in Flagstaff, AZ.

Kiln Building / Wood Fire Workshops with Jason Hess, Takashi Nakazato, Ka=

Oba and Etsuji Noguchi. We will build a new "Switch Back" Train Kiln and =
=3D
fire=3D20
it during the first workshop. The "Switch Back" design has a fire box and=
=3D
=3D20
chimney at both ends the idea being that it can fire from both directions=
=3D
=3D20
creating heavy ash deposits at either end. Takashi Nakazato is a potter f=
=3D
rom=3D20
the Karatsu region of Japan and he will be here in our ceramics studio fo=
=3D
r the=3D20
month of July. He is bringing 2 assistants with him to help with the kiln=
=3D
design=3D20
and construction. The second session is our annual firing workshop during=
=3D
=3D20
which we typically fire 6 - 8 kilns. Depending on the participants we can=
=3D
=3D20
potentially fire the new "Switch Back" Train, our "Double Wide" Train,=3D20=
=3D

Anagama, Catinary Arch Wood Soda and or Catinary Arch Wood kilns.=3D20
Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring bisqueware. Our studio i=
=3D
s=3D20
spacious and well equipped, open 24 hours and located within walking dist=
=3D
ance=3D20
of dormitory accommodations. The dates are:

Kiln Building Workshop July 5th - 16th
Wood Fire Workshop July 18th - 29th

Cost is approximately $1050 for each workshop and includes clay and glaze=
=3D
=3D20
materials and firing costs. Some wood splitting will be necessary by=3D20
participants.

Accommodations are close by our studio and are very affordable. (approx. =
=3D
$15=3D20
per night)
