I use a torch (carefully) if the bottom is soft in the middle. To
make the Sue feet, I usually leave extra clay on the bottom of the
pot, and then just trim in the middle and on the outside leaving a fat
ring. I then pull this up. I've never had any problems with the
bottom being too soft.
