raku/naked candy etc.

I am working on a naked clay effect in raku using a slip over the clay
which peels off after reduction to reveal black reduced lines where the
slip crazed. The slip must peel off easily after cooling to reveal the
white, oxidized areas of the clay. I have used sugar in the slip (hence the
"candy" term), but I'm not sure what the purpose of the sugar is. Does
anyone have any experience with this technique and wish to share
experimental data?
