Hey Paul,
Been there done that. Years ago I made evaporators for
wood stoves by the dozen. If you fire your stoneware at a lower
temperature so that it is still somewhat porous and you do not glaze
the inside or the bottom outside fill them with water and place them
on a trivet on top of the wood stove they work like a charm!
