I am adding a slide show to a web page. What slide show formats do you
recommend?

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Hi Arnold,

I know this isn't what you asked, but I don't like slideshows. I
prefer webpages that have thumbnails that enlarge. I also like videos
on the web.

What I dislike about slideshows is that someone else sets the timing
and path/order of the slideshow. When I go into a gallery or museum,
I choose the art works that I want to look at by walking over to them.

Once I start a web slide show there are a couple of things I have to
do. First I have to click through things that may not be that
interesting to me to get to the things I want to see. Since there are
a wide variety of slideshow formats out there on the web, I also have
to figure out how the next, forward and back buttons of the slide show
relate to the page they are on and how to enlarge images in the show
(if possible), and also how to turn the show off. I rarely look at an
entire slide show on a web page because I find the format cumbersome.
It feels like someone telling me I have to look at the Monet's at the
museum first instead of the Edward Hopper paintings.

I use a free service on my website called statcounter. It lets me
look at the paths that visitors take as they come through my site.
Everyone who visits takes a different path. Some choose to look more
at pots than at recipes and grid glazes. Others look only at
elementary art kid lessons. I hardly ever get a visitor who looks at
every image on a page. Each visitor picks and chooses how they will
navigate through the site.

I guess if I was going to give any advice about a slideshow, it would
be to put the important images or information first, otherwise many of
your visitors may never wade deep enough into the show to see all of it.
