My private answer to the question, asked by "an old lady" was
that blogs are webpages for "Old Ladies." ;^) Being able to
update them simply out of Picasa or via an email with photo
attachments allows anybody to build and maintain a web presence.

was really kinda overwhelmed with everyone who responded to my last=3D20
posting.. sorry if I haven't been able to answer everyone. I promise I'll=
=3D
try to=3D20
come on and answer tech questions you asked...=3D20

here is a very simple answer to "What is a Blog"?

A blog is a website primarily for the purpose of posting updates- regardl=
=3D
ess of=3D20
whether they are for personal, business or other endeavors, and allowing=3D=
20=3D

people to read and comment on them.=3D20

Think of it as a journal, on the internet, but instead of locking it away=
=3D
=3D20
afterwards, people are encouraged to interact with you.=3D20

Blogs exist for a multitude of reasons: personal blogs for letting people=
=3D
know=3D20
what you're doing, photo blogs to simply document the things you do and=3D2=
0=3D

places you go, video blogs....=3D20

Blogs have become very popular for two reasons: one, because our culture =
=3D
has=3D20
become much more revealing in nature and feels the need to report on=3D20
everything and this is part of how we interact with eachother.=3D20

However, blogging has taken root for businesses and non profits as well=3D2=
0=3D

because it is the single most efficient way to build something called SEO=
=3D
:=3D20
Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a fancy way of saying, "how efficient=
=3D
ly=3D20
people find me on google and other search engines". People want SEO for =
=3D
the=3D20
same reason you want foot traffic in front of a store. The more people wa=
=3D
lk by=3D20
your store or see your site, regardless of your turnkey rate, the more yo=
=3D
u'll sell.

So what is the difference between a blog and a website? Simply: static pa=
=3D
ges.=3D20
In other words: almost nothing at all. Infact, therein lies the rub. The=3D=
20=3D

platforms, like WordPress that were built as a blogging tool have evolved=
=3D
so=3D20
much that they are now full website capable platforms. Add some pages to=3D=
20=3D

your site and voila: its now a website.=3D20

So, this also answers a few questions people asked me about maintaining a=
=3D
=3D20
separate blog and website for their business: there's no reason to. Its a=
=3D
waste=3D20
of energy and resources and you'll ultimately lose SEO. Integrate your bl=
=3D
og=3D20
INTO your website. Its very easy. Since the whole point of a blog is to =
=3D
engage=3D20
with people, to engage with them on a blog then ask them to go elsewhere =
=3D
to=3D20
BUY from you is counterproductive.
