One of my favorite iron red glazes (cone 6) is Greg Lamont=3DE2=3D80=3D99s =
Carame=3D
l Apple (recipe below) which I refire to cone 04 with a slow cool. It can m=

ake luscious reds/oranges/ dark browns with a smooth semi-gloss surface. B=

ut something happened with the last batch I mixed: it came out with an oran=
=3D
ge-peel texture. To see if I could correct this, I re-sieved the batch (60=

mesh), and also put a portion of the glaze in the blender for about 45 sec=

onds. Both versions came through the cone 6 firing nicely. But when I refi=
=3D
red to cone 04, the blender glaze came out dark brown, not red, and with a =

scattering of little bumps like grains of sand. The sieved glaze did fine.

Obviously I will not put this glaze into the blender again (!),although I h=
=3D
ave successfully blended other glazes this way. But I would like to know: W=

HAT THE HECK HAPPENED? Anyone?

Side note: I have recently been using C Harris Temmoku and have found it ve=

ry reliable, as others have mentioned recently, with no refiring needed. No=

t as interesting a surface as the Caramel Apple. It has been more orange th=

an red for me though -- should do some tweaking.
