I was just reading Vince's post about Installation Art and the subsequent d=
ust problem at The Tate Modern. It occured to me that the porcelain seeds -=
being scuffed about as visitors wade through them -- are acting as an abra=
sive to the cement/concrete flooring. I've visited TM several times. If som=
eone else has pegged this problem, sorry, been skimming over the Seeds deal=
. But Vince is always worth reading!

Hi Dina, all,

In three days? ( They had a 'dust;' issue evolve in less than the three day=
s
of the exhibition/installation being open? )

With the 'Seeds' easily no less than five or six inches deep?

The amount of pressure reaching an given 'Seed' from a person walking on it=
,
would be very low or slight...and I do not see how it could be enough to
wear hi-fired Porcelain 'Seeds' or even medium to low fire.

I don't see how this could have accounted for the purported 'dust'
problem...and I for one do not even know if any 'dust' problem actually
existed, other than that some press-release jive said it did.

Something is a whole of bunch o' fishy there with the Tate on this thing.

One of their lawyers probably read them the riot act on needing a
pre-emptive gesture to ward off some far fetched liability suit should any
Ceramic ( 'Silica' ) 'dust' have been made, is more like it...or their
policy was poised to go 'up' unless some such gesture were made.

Then they got some supposed allergist dolt to start pontificating about the
'paint' on the 'Seeds' and whatever else.

Oye...

If wishes were Horses, I'd send them a nice, honest-to-goodness, West Texas
'Dust Storm', to blow through their whole Gallery enclave, then all those
mooks could see for themselves what 'Dust' is all about in the grown-up
world of things.

Lol...

Oh well, whatchagunnado...

Love,

Phil

Has anybody found information as to whether or not they took an air/
dust sample and have made the analysis public? I'm still baffled at
their closing on just an "it's bad for you" statement. Wondering if
they would release the list of offending particles to the public at
large.
