letting newly mixed glazes steep

Funny! this is a very timely subject for me. I usually let glazes
steep for a day or more. Last week I was in a hurry. I mixed a glaze
and screened it through a sieve several times. Ner-the-less when I
fired it white grains showed up in several places. I think I know why
this is. I think that some glaze ingredients (in this case probably
tin oxide) need time to fully dissolve and blend with the glaze. Even
though I am an old potter, this is not an old potter's tale.

Does your glaze have bentonite in it? I have noticed that bentonite seems t=
o
need to steep overnight to fully wet and if you don't the white specks are
the result.
