art work management software?

Hi folks,

I checked the archives at www.reference.com (more
on this in another message), and could not find
any past references to a discussion of art work
management programs.

I'm familiar with the Art Systems software
(www.artsystems.com), but its cost is prohibitive
for most of us - and it is primarily directed to
galleries and serious collections. Of course,
there are standard databases which can be set up
for art work, but they too can require some
complicated programming with potential costs.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to follow work
from conception to forming (incorporating glaze
calculation, etc.) to inventory to disposition.
The database would incorporate resources/library
and contact/client information, as well as the
usual elements of one's catalogue, including
images. It would also have interactive capability
with desktop publishing to maximize its potential.
I see this in terms of ceramics, but can envision
variations for other crafts or media.
And hopefully its cost would be well under $500.

I've initiated some discussion with a couple of
the glaze calculation software gurus, but thought
a little feedback from Clayart might be helpful.

Am I missing something here? The gang at digital
fire?

Thanks in advance.

Paul
