I finally got to put a slide through the HP Photosmart Scanner and print it
on the HP Photosmart printer. The scan and print was done using the "default
settings". The results were great! BUT as I'd been warned, they lack
gradation in the shadows. The slide was of a large bowl with a nice shadow
underneath it. The bowl prints great but the shadow is in three circular
bands and is "dotty". We didn't have much time to play around with the
settings.

The image was printed at 600dpi (but that seems low for the quality image)
and the file in JPG or TIF format would have been 2 MB if I'd been able to
save it on a diskette.

I would have liked to get it on a diskette so I could print it at home to
see how it looked on my Stylus 800. I think the Photosmart printer is a
better printer if you just want to print photos but I need something that
can easily and economically print documents as well. The Stylus 800 is the
best in this range (at least of what's available in Belgium right now)

hi russell it is easy to compress large files across many floppies using a
utility called "ARJ" i regularly compress up to 50 meg files using arj it
is sharware.. if you can't find it on the www email me...and by the way you
wont get much of an image on any printer with a file under 2 meg unless it
is really small...there is a list i have just subscribed called epson
inkjet printers check out ..there is a lot of
info there re scanning etc etc.. i chose the epson 600 as my new printer
