I can see it. Like in a burner where a jet of gas induces air flow the
gasses escaping the muzzle would induce a draft (sorta) [maybe] {could just
be a good story to amaze the local potter}

I love chimneys and old brick yards. I made pals with a old brick yard
owner from around here. He is all "character" and I'm not sure if he
was bull shitting me or not. He told me his Dad would have him crawl
in a clean out at the bottom of the chimney with a shot gun and shot
double barrels up the chimney to get the draft going. I don't know why
he just didn't start a small fire down there but it makes for a good
story. He does now wear two hearing aids. He also said he would throw
tin cans in the fire box to get a black brick. I bought a 18 wheeler
of firebrick and over fired red bricks from him. I had no idea what I
was going to do with the red bricks but I loved them. They became a
path. The firebricks became a kiln.
Brampton Brick here produces 1 million bricks per day. All automated
and not as interesting as the old brick yards that were started here
when the Welland Canal was built to take ships from Lake Erie around
Niagara Falls to Lake Ontario. Good red clay called Queenston Shale
that i use in my shino.
Cheers,
Tony
