I have a foam bat that came with my wheel. It is about 1/2 - 3/4
inch thick foam glued to a large bat with holes for bat pins. I use
it all the time for bowls and plates. One thing I did is I took a
permanent marker and drew concentric rings on it about 1/2 inch
apart. Really helps to get me (and my piece) centered.

place to be!)

Regarding foam bats: For anyone trimming plates or large diameter bowls,
Hank Murrow makes a great foam bat composed of concentric removable
rings, that works like a dream. It is called a Ringbat and I'm sure he'd
send you one, for a small fee of course. I don't remember how much they
cost, but I've had mine now for a number of years and they are well
worth whatever I paid for them.

It helps lift platters above our splashpan if you have one.
