the worlds largest earthenware dish

This is a link to a BBC page about the world record for a dish of
hummus. Not too interesting till you read to the end. They claim that
the bowl it is mixed in is the world's largest earthenware dish, it must
be 20 feet across at least. Any advance on that, and any ideas on how
they fired a dish that big?

I'd imagine they made the bowl and then built a temporary kiln around
it to fire it. Wouldn't it be great if we could decide the outcome of
a war based on the size of a bowl of hummus. Instead of territory
being the prize, naming rights would prevail. "Lebanon, home of the
worlds largest bowl of hummus."

Hi Roly,

When I lived in India many years ago, I noticed that food stands used
unfired clay dishes in the way we use paper or plastic.
After eating, the dishes were simply dropped on the ground and allowed to
merge with the earth.

It is possible that the earthenware dish was not fired. Im not sure this i=
s
what happened, so I'll just say it is possible.

Best,
