Gina,

=3D20

Current prices of K -23 , 2 =3DBD " thick fire brick per 1000 are $2.80 =3D
each. Current prices of K -23, 3" thick fire brick per 1000 are $3.36 =3D
each

I like the 3" thick brick as there are less seams in the vertical height =
=3D
of the kiln than with the 2 =3DBD" brick. =3D20

you might also check with harbison walker and some other suppliers. =3D20
we got some k23's from them that were closer to 1.50 ea in pallet =3D20
quanity (I think 480 bricks? can't remember) don't remember if that =3D20
included freight. turns out these were chinese bricks, but they seem =3D20=
=3D

strong enough, are not all crumbly, and weren't busted or broken when =3D20=
=3D

we got them. in fact I have used almost a whole pallet and not found =3D20=
=3D

a single broken brick in the lot. all were uniform size, too. may be =3D2=
0=3D

that these don't hold up as well as american ones at temperature, but =3D20=
=3D

we will find out. Harbison walker was at one point a very reputable =3D20
company, and I haven't heard anything to the contrary, so I assume =3D20
their source of chinese bricks makes good product - HW supply =3D20
refractories in huge quantity to industries of all kinds who tend to =3D20
demand high quality products, so I can't imagine them selling junk.

shop around, you may find a better deal than 2.80 ea. we got ours two =3D2=
0=3D

and some years ago before the economy tanked, so I can't imagine they =3D20=
=3D

have jacked up prices that much with business being flat.

good luck with this,
jon

About 3 years ago, when building my kiln I looked into bricks from China.=
=3D
I
ended up importing them from China. The minimum order was 3 pallets, appr=
=3D
ox
1000 bricks. I got K-26 in 2 1/2 inch for $1.13 a brick, FOB. I used UPS
International to ship, $760 shipping from Shanghai to Oakland California.=
=3D

Rented a truck from Ryder for $120 to pick them up at the dock and bring =
=3D
to
the studio. The whole process was quite easy. The bricks were of good
quality. (We will see about durability). I would be glad to share the
details of the transaction with anyone who would like to pursue the impor=
=3D
ter
approach.
