credit card servicing-fine print

Greetings,

I used Chase Paymantech for credit card service under the Potter's
Council program for about a year. Being far from "professional" in
John's sense of earning my living from my pots, I found that I wasn't
using the service and terminated it. Even the modest $3.50/month
seemed silly to waste. Alas, I discovered too late that there was a 3-
year minimum, so I was charged a $250 termination fee!!! It would
have only cost $84 to continue, so my knickers are in a major twist.
This is meant to be fair warning to others who think they may want to
accept credit cards.

By the way, I've heard that Propay may be a better choice.

Happy potting,
Madeleine

I used to use Intuit (Quickbooks) to process my credit cards. After 3
years, I realized that the monthly fees simply weren't worth it so I
called to cancel my account. They said no problem, that will be $300.
I asked when my contract was due to be up and they responded that there
is no date on the service, I would be charged the $300 whenever I
canceled the service 5, 10, 20 years from now it didn't matter. I told
them to sue me and canceled the service, closed the bank account
associated with them and haven't heard from them since. I now have
customers go online and pay me through paypal. Yes the per use fews are
a little higher but I have NO fees on the months that I don't happen to
accept a credit card.

It is interesting what they will try on. I just opened a credit card
facility for a non-profit, volunteer organization that I am the treasurer
of. They wanted my social security number in addition to the Tax ID number
of the chapter. I asked why and discovered that I would be held personally
responsible for any default. I said no way. We put the application through
with just the Tax ID (they said they thought it would be rejected.) It was
accepted. A little kick back was all it took, but they tried to make it
sound as if it were necessary.
