lockerbie wheel?

updated sat 20 dec 97

I have been considering the purchase of a new wheel.
Has anyone had or heard of any experiences with Lockerbie Kickwheels.

I was considering purchasing the Model# EK-100 (which comes with an electric
motor kit). I like the idea of having it both ways.

Is this a well designed machine?
Does anyone have any other suggestions in that $500-$900 price range.
I could use a few good tips on this one.

thank you for your time...

Just my opinion, of course, but Lockerbie kickwheels are the
best I've ever encountered; smoothest, most comfortable, reliable.
I learned to throw on a Lockerbie kickwheel (beginners couldn't
use the electric shimpos). I've only gotten to use one that was
motorized once, but I found it just as smooth and nearly as
quiet as the unmotorized version. I do believe that a motorized
kickwheel has definite advantages, especially for a one-wheel
studio. I'd buy one, if I were in the market for a new wheel.

Trey or Lynne:

Lockerbie is the kickwheel we use at school, and it works great. It has
a humongous concrete flywheel and adjustable seat height.

Tray,
I have use three types of kickwheels: kit built with a plywood frame, a
motorized Randall, and Lockerbies with and without a motor. I would still
have my Randall, but couldn't justify moving it from New York State to Oregon
a couple of years ago. I don't own a Lockerbie but use them at our collective
studio. I think they are well designed and built. If I were to buy a
kickwheel now I'm sure I could be quite happy with a Lockerbie. Actually, my
first kickwheel was a homemade one...the frame was 4x4 hard maple and the
weights were old window sash counter weights attached to marine plywood (not
made by me, by the way). Not very portable, but and interesting piece of
equipment.
