It is fine to joke about artspeak, and about those artist statements that
are all about posing and obfuscation, because there is much to ridicule in
that kind of art writing. But if you want some help writing a good artist'=
s
statement that is accessible and sensible and will actually be beneficial t=
o
the artist and the viewer, please view my handout on "How to Write an
Artist's Statement" at
http://iweb.tntech.edu/wpitelka/syllabi-handouts/handouts/artist%27s%20stat=
e
ment.htm. I researched artist's statements extensively, and read every
on-line handout I could find about writing artist's statements, and over th=
e
years I put together this handout. All of my advanced students have to
write or re-write their artist's statement every semester for final reviews=
.

If the link above does not work for you, just go to my website in the
signature below, click "syllabi and handouts," click "handouts and
information," and then click on the handout title. I have no wish to get
into another discussion about artist's statements, but they are required in
so many venues these days, and it is to the advantage of every
artist/artisan to learn to write a good one. A good artist's statement tha=
t
serves the intended purpose is nothing to joke about.

My favorite line on that artist statement generator page was this one...

"note: The Market-O-Matic (1.0) [fine arts version] doesn't work right
in Netscape 4.x for PC's, and I just don't care anymore."

I've been there and done that when it comes to getting something to
work in every browser in the world.
