one advantage of hump throwing is:
the bottom half of the hump can be all over the place
just the top bit has to be in center. your hands control
that.
i think vince has it right...been going on a long time, in many
places...and, it helped to counteract the wiggle in the wheel.
just a thought/ no proof.

i made one of those concrete tub wheels, using the
front wheel assembly of a nash rambler.
worked well.
had a hole for the stick to get it rolling...and it would
really role for a long time...hard to stop it. kids just loved
that thing, but more play and splashing slip then pots.
but, who cared...mom's would just throw the clothes in the
wash....and say...`that mel, and his clay tskkk.`
