outside of bowls 2

People have sent me some really nice photos of the sides of bowls, and I
notice that most of them are straight sided -- sort of like large cups
without handles, or else tea bowls as Lee calls them. This makes sense.
But for my personal use, I am talking about larger serving bowls -- the
wider open bowl your mom (or dad) put mashed potatoes in. Then the
largest open space is, of course, the inside. And on the table you often
see the inside, especially when all the mashed potatoes have been eaten (bu=
t
then there is a scum of potatoes still on the bottom). On my selves though=
,
which are at eye level or above, I still see the outside.
Actually, I can add a second issue. If you think of these as serving bowls=
,
then the most important part of the decoration should be up near the rim, s=
o
you can see it about the potatoes.
