casserole handles: most functional design?

updated sun 1 nov 09

Recently i received lots of constructive and very helpful feedback about
the mixing bowls i make and i am currently in the process of re-designing
them as a result. I was actually thinking to just get rid of them and kind
of hoping to do so because i have too many items on my list - but i guess i
will have to bite the bullet once again and improve them. That way i will
have even more items to make...

anyway, one clayarter had the audacity to extend constructive criticism to
my casserole handles - so i might as well make some changes to them as
well. The handles are just like on my mixing bowl and do seem a bit small.
So i made a new extruder die the other night while waiting for my kiln to
finish and this one is a little bigger and more interesting as well. (on a
whim i took a 4" aluminum blank i made long ago and drilled three holes in
line with each other and very close but not quite overlapping; then took
some files to it and leveled off one side while leaving the ridges from the
holes on the other side. so the die will look kind of like a capital
letter "B" but with a third loop). Anyway, so i would like to see some
pictures of what others consider to be very functional casserole handles -
very easy to pick up from an oven with pot holders or whatever.
Anyone care to post some links or comment?
thanks,
Paul

All of our casserole handles have two forms,
sides & lid. The side handles are concave to give as
much purchase as possible when using oven mitts. The
lid handles are convex. We don't use knobs on
casseroles, actually we don't use knobs on any shape,
haven't for decades. The dies on this page are used on
the 500ml casseroles & oven bowls.

The 1, 2 & 3 litre casseroles use the same concept,
just larger.
