I had the exact same thing happen to me. After replacing all the
elements and the thermocouples, it was discovered that I had a bad
relay. A relay is one of the easiest things to replace. Be very
careful testing them.

Hi Susan-

I use two L&L kilns, and i gave grown to love them. Your Err 1 could be =
a
few things. An element out. An old element not keeping up with the other
one. There is a setting in the controller called LAG, and if one element is
cooler than the other one, (if you are using two pyrometers), by more then
the LAG setting, it will give this error. Mine is set at 10 degrees because
I have new elements, but you can set it to 50 or 75. this allows them to ru=
n
at different temps. Your thermocouple could be broken, or there could be a
short in the thermocouple reading the temp. Get a manual for the kiln. This
is really well documented. (probably the only manual of its kind!).
your tech should be able to solve this for you.

On another note, My new website is up and running, with a new design
created by my son, and a shopping cart too. Check it out!

A quick way to check the relays is to do an ammeter test
while the kiln is running. The ammeter will give the total
amperage that the kiln is drawing.
