iron red without bone ash?

I am doing some glaze tests right now but it will be about 2 weeks
before the next firing is unloaded and I see the results, so I just
thought to ask if anyone knows about this. Do most iron reds rely
totally on the bone ash to get that color, or does it just enhance the
red color? I am firing in the cone 10 reduction range and using Ohata
red.

The reason I am interested in this is because I have two glazes that use
bone ash, one is ohata and the other a slip glaze, and both come out
yellowish where my rutile blue is layered over. So I am just wondering
if the bone ash has something to do with it.

Years ago I did the same combo with a glaze called "iron red plum" and
it came out very nice and blue where the rutile was dipped over. But,
the base plum glaze was not very interesting. In this case, the glaze
did not use bone ash so in a way I answered my own question, BUT it did
not really come out red either.

Any info appreciated!

Thanks,

Paul
