All,
I've been asked to recast the ceramic handles on some antique flatware. The
upsizing, the casting, and the glazing should be a breeze but I'm not sure
how to attach the handles to the metal flatware forks, spoons, and knives.

Does anyone know how they did it in the past? (The pieces could be as old
as the 40's or as late as the 60's.) They were made by Denby in England.

It appears that the handles were made with holes in the center and a
portion of the metal went into it. It also appears that a hard white subst=
ance
was used to create a bond between the ceramic handle and the metal portion=
.
I don't know whether the handles are earthenware or stoneware but the
bonding material SEEMS TO BE a fired ceramic material.

Could the bonding material be a low fired ceramic substance?

thanks for any leads
