molded clay cracks

I recently have begun to do press molded ceramic pieces. The clay I am
using is one I have used alot in the past for large scale pieces,
developed by Don Ritz for salt firing. I put a gertlty borate based
white glaze over the press molded pieces and then once fire them in
salt. Both glaze and clay I have used in my salt kiln many times
without problems but now with the press molded pieces they sometimes get
surface cracks, linear, horizontal and sometimes spider like. The clay
seems to be pulling apart. This is very inconsistant, as I can get good
pieces also. Any one know what might be the problem? Is it the glaze,
clay or the molding process? Any suggestions? I need to get consistant
resultants, as I am losing alot of pieces this way. Thanks
