I have found that you can really view cones in the kiln with a bright lcd flashlight. I have one that is 60 lumens and you do not have any trouble viewing the cones. Quite expensive lights but you may find them useful. Randy Cotton Patch Pottery members.tripod.com/~McCallJ/index.html
