Clayart-

I recently came across an interesting webpage with a photo of a setup
for a slipcast bowl form. I'm trying to find this page in my history,
but because I've visited so many pages within the last few months, it's
proving to be elusive.
I'll do my best to describe it and maybe someone will recognize it.
They used sheets of wood or plastic about 1/2 inch thick. They cut
circles of increasing circumferences and stacked them on top of each
other in order, creating the 3D bowl form. This solid form was used to
make a plaster mold for slipcasting. The inside of the final slipcast
bowl resembles a flight of stairs.

If anyone can help me track this down, I'd appreciate it!

Clayart-

I found the artist I was looking for. His name is Tavs Jorgensen, and he
uses CAD/CAM to draw out his designs and cuts each layer individually
with a laser.

There is a very detailed description of his process.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Tavs did a demo at Aberystwyth a few years a go that took our breath
away. The photo sequence below doesn't capture it at all.

Basically he made a template that represented the shape of the bowl
he want to make in plaster then formed a cottle around that and
poured plaster into it. When the plaster had set up to a jelly like
consistancy, he took the cottle off and used a piece of plastic that
represented the profile of the bowl to run around the jelly like
plaster to 'carve' out the hump form.

It was the only time I've heard an audible gasp from the whole audience.

Amazing!

He does great, well designed work and a lot of very interesting
experimental work as well.
