Hay Folks,

Who am I to question the hand of providence because this last road trip was none of my doing. It seems the Michigan Ceramic Arts Association is having their opening for their bi-annual exhibition in Kalamazoo where I'd planned on visiting Mom at the assisted living place. Then the show moves to Wayne State University Community Arts Gallery until December 19. Well so I better get on with my experience before the closing in Kalamazoo on the 12th. and they move it to Detroit.

In spite of the fact my entry didn't make the cut...

...I decided to attend the opening anyway and try out the JVC GZ-MG130 with 5 hours worth of power (I left the recharger cord at home so I just packed it for leaving again tonight) and use the Pentax W30 as a still with the video backup. I ended up using that on a side trip to the Kalamazoo Valley Community College studio because I filled the 30GB. hard drive on the JVC with mostly the opening of the MCAA exhibition, part 1...

...and as it turned out Bonnie Seeman's demonstration the next day. And what a surprise when Gail Galusky showed up for a gander, and I guess she cruised the show too. We both agreed there seemed a preponderance of sculptural pieces and fewer functional production pieces and no factory prototypes so as the small boxed wine started flowing, well drip into little paper cups, we headed to Theo & Stacey's for Greek food. As I think back we shoulda hung out a while because it was the 50th. anniversary of the Michigan Potters Association becoming the MCAA and some of the old crowd was still winning awards so it would have been neat to interview more of the attendees. However, I made some attempt at an entirely different type of ceramic project for myself and recorded the event for those who got rained off because that was the weekend it rained for a year. So here are about half the stills I got...

... there will be more later but I need to hit the road and head for the bridge and below again because Mom is having some sort of "review" with the assisted living staff, the doctor I think, adult protective services ( Mom got them after Andrea and me in a way accusing us of taking her stuff away and moving her against her will) to decide where else she might be more comfortable EXCEPT Dearborn! Sad to say there aren't many choices left when ya have too much trouble making decisions. If ya want to see the MCAA entry shots in their page take a gander...

... wuhu that's a long fella eh? Something about seeing them in location gives a better idea of scale for me even if some of my angles aren't level.

There was a lot more done on the Hobagama along with more pages again so I think I recently developed the Bourry top with the stoke holes and air ports. I also followed Gail and Mel's idea to get ahold of Tim and we got me to lay some 1" fiber blanket over the 4.5" hard brick walls and something else over that. I forgot where I left off so page 3 starts with pulling and re-cutting a brick I didn't quite like the way it set...

on to page 4 where the Bourry gets some work and the blanket is installed...

I'll see to posting more next week since the show did inspire me to some new thinking but for now I gotta head East and the sun will be in my eyes so stay in there eh?
