I am having a lot of trouble posting from China just now so I apologize if this is a repeat... Picasso......as I understand...did actually throw clay....he tried his hand at it...He was a simple person in many ways from Malaga....He appreciated the clay process even if he never fired a piece or made the clay. He was after all a decorator.....he learned art from his art teacher father....he could draw.....and paint. He was a creative S.O.B. he played with all kinds of materials. Does that make him less of a creative genius? The public? Who in the public know much about Picasso's ceramics? He used the materials available to him...paper, graphite, paint, canvas, clay, metal, textiles.......he used the available to make the unimaginable. He pushed the envelope....he expanded the nature of art in many ways. Ways that YOU don't like? Tough shit my friend....he pushed the envelope. He spoke his own words....cubism Blue period, Pink, Guernica....he makes us think....in his pottery, his paintings and his paintings. he has enlivened even this conversation some 32 years after his passing.....will you be able to say the same? May he inspire us all.....as do many...Shaner, Ball, Coper, Voulkos, Soldner, Tomimoto, Kenzan, Rie, and yes...even Mel !Long live collaboration!! Just my 2 RMB....yet again. Ric > I am saying that the foray confused ( and continues to confuse ) the public> into thinking Picasso was also> a practical 'Potter' or maker of Ceramics...or, it confused things, in> various ways.> > > Collaborative Work is usually understood without needing explainations,> especially in contexts where no one gets any billing anyway...or when both> parties for being well known, both receive billing.> > Possibly everyone would approve if someone not 'famous' ordered a bunch of> some Potter's Wares, and painted some additional glaze on them, or ordered> Bisqued wares, Painted on them, had someone else fire them, then sold them> as their own????> >
