Good morning,

I was planning on submitting my work for this show and the deadline is coming up. I just wonder how you all decide what images you submit.
Is it important to submit work all in the same style? Or would it be a good idea to submit a variety of work such as functional and sculptural? I am
still exploring my range and since nothing in particular has taken off, I keep doing a variety of work which can make it hard to decide what to submit.
Thank you for your advice.

Hello Krista:=0A=A0=0AMuch to my chagrin=A0most shows want a cohesive body =
of work. Although you make many different things=A0it is always=A0better to=

to see what you are doing not what you can do.=0A=A0=0AMayssan Shora Farra=

Work that you submit for an exhibition,
especially the Clay National, should not
be "one of this, one of that". Decide what
your strongest work is, and submit images
of same. If you submit one sculpture, one
bowl and one wall piece, the odds are
very much against you being selected for
the exhibition. Just about zero, in fact.

That seems like a small number of images for works that are 3D. Sometimes I need 4 views to get everything.

Dannon is right, submit a series of what you think is your strongest
work (similar).

You could go and research the jurors, the type of work they do, the kind
of work they have accepted in the past in other shows, etc but I think
that's really a lot of work with probably little return.

I had a friend in school who submitted a painting in the style of the
judge's girl friend and it got accepted into the show but that was more
of a dig at the judge, who was a professor he didn't like than a real
attempt at submitting good art.

Also, check the requirements, you can only submit two images to the
Biennial and a detail of each image. That makes 4 pictures but only two
objects.

Krista,

Have a look at the, juried arts services website. They have a lot of very
helpful information about how to take good photos, composition, image
cohesiveness, how to prepare your photos and how the jury system
(technically) works. I found it very helpful.

What I didnt't appreciate is that their payment form for submissions doesn't
work for foreign entries. I'm submitting from Belgium and my credit card
info is being refused. State is a required field. Belgium is a small
country, we don't have states! At least there is no state in my billing
address.

I'm working on it with them.
