I researched some of the ingredients in surfactants and I will not be using
it in my glazes.
Dangerous ingredients. You don't want to get the stuff on you.

Why not use detergent or soap? It wouldn't take much to break the surface
tension if that's what you are aiming for.

I'm glad you did some checking, Randy. I haven't had much time to research
the Adept ingredients beyond doing a little reading for a basic refresher on
agricultural surfactants and pulling up the right toxicology data bases (the
PAN Pesticides Database at http://www.pesticideinfo.org/ is a good one). In
general though these agricultural and pesticide related surfactants seem to
be something to avoid in the clay studio for their own inherent toxicity,
especially concentrated, and because they might make it easier for some of
our more dangerous oxides to penetrate the skin. It's always good to check
products if you're going to use them in an off-label manner. All surfactants
are not the enemy though -- modern soaps, laundry and dish detergents, skin
cleaners, etc. make great use of safe or fairly safe surfactants, helping to
make our lives easier. It might be fun to come up with a safe surfactant
that would make reglazing easier and your experiment gave some good clues.

Thanks for sharing - interesting topic!

sure makes you not want to put the stuff on your lawn. or eat the
food in the grocery store... Gotta plant a bigger garden next year.
