Like several other ClayArters I just do NOT like plaster around the studio.
I do have some molds, old, and all that, but in the future I would look to
rubber or like that. A small piece of plaster in the clay can be DISASTER
written large.

A fun way to dry clay goes like this. Take an old wooden chair, one with
four legs. Take a piece of fabric--old jeans, a hated skirt, an old
shirt--all it needs to be is a piece of solid, napless fabric--and tie a
corner to each chair leg. You now have a cloth hammock, as it were, between
the chair legs. Pour your slurry in into that
"hammock". Very soon you have a large blob of clay of the right
consistency. You can roll it up from the corners --i.e. the legs--and have
it neatly wrapped. This is a nice system as it allows air from all sides.
Of course if you like the setup, cut off the back of the chair....or you can
start with an old stool.

You also can take a large garbage can, or washtub. Drape your cloth over
the opening, being sure enough drapes over the sides so you can tie or
duct-tape it down. Another way to make that "hammock".
