If I'm reading you correctly, the 2nd half of the mold is coming out as you wish
except for the plaster surfaces that meet. If this is the case, I think your mold soap
application has not been thorough enough.

One thing that might help this make sense to you is that you are not just preparing
a surface. You are forcing the plaster to accept soap so that it permeates the plaster
at that place. I use dilute mold soap (or Murphy's oil soap works perfectly) with a soft
sponge. This must be done MANY TIMES. You know the surface has been adequately
soaped when it is lustrous and silky smooth and drops of water bead up on the surface.

I always told students (when I used to give plaster workshops) that doing the soap an
extra 5 times (over the 20 times you already did) is a very good investment. So if you have
been swiping the surface a couple of times with mold soap and calling it a job you can see
where that might not have been adequate.

Even if this is not the problem for you, while we are talking about mold making it is a good
aspect of the job to go over.

Best,

Eleanora

> After I pour the 2nd section and pull the mold apart, I'm getting a weird texture where the two halves come together and a very thin uneven layer of plaster is not sticking to the newly poured section of the mold. This plaster will wash off the first 1/2 but leaves an indented slightly modeled texture on the second 1/2. Does anyone know what this is caused by and what I can do?
