new kemper pro tools - modifications has anyone tried?

Hi all

I LOVE LOVE my dolan tools but after 7 years they are getting to the
point of needing to replace them.

So I am trying the new Kemper Pro style and guess what....

I HATE them!

_*Dislikes:*_
The handle is fatter than the dolans....okay I can live with this

The metal part at the top that attaches the loop to the wooden handle is
by and far too large and you have to hold your tool at a non ergonomical
position which is very tiring if you are trimming a lot

The tool chatters like crazy on leather hard wares no matter what angle
you trim at.
but.....works beautifully on that clay that is past leather hard and no
chattering.

The loop itself is nice and sharp but is very thick in the middle which
may be part of the chattering problem I have thought of grinding it
down to think the metal to see if that helps.

_*Likes:*_
It's sharp
I can drop it and it doesn't break
Is reasonably priced - less than $15

These have been used by everyone in my studio and the concensus is the
same. Only good for pieces you've let dry too much before trimming.

So now I have to either modify them or try another tool. I understand
Bison is good but am not willing to spend $30 for a tool that breaks if
you drop it. Heck I must drop my tools 20+ times a day

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The woman who designed these tools works at Kentucky Mudworks. I am
in a teapot class with her right now and she brought us all one to
try. I really like it.

Nancy,

So will the Bison and the Groovy Tools. Going from the old Dolans to
the new tools, whichever brand you choose, will require some
adjustments. Over the last year, I have received a couple of tools from
Bison and a couple from Susan at Groovy Tools. Then when I saw the
Kemper Pro tools, I bought a couple of those, same thing. You will
have to adjust and go on. As far as my "likes" with the new Kempers,
they're the same as yours.
