Dear Grandma May,

You are mistaken. When the computer sleeps all of reality sleeps with
it. You only THINK you are still awake and functioning. Better if you
just go ahead and take a little nap when the computer is doing the
same. Anyway, grandkids can be so tiring and you have worked so hard
making those clay beings...

Tay Tay, in Rock Rock where the only damp is under my arms and it's
90+ and getting hotter.

Mayssan,

Most computers have a battery that keeps the clock
running when the computer is shut down. To check
or replace it you would have to look inside the computer.
They usually look like a silver button, maybe about
the size of a U.S. quarter. In the interest of cost savings
and environmental friendliness they may have stopped
doing this on newer computers.

The only problem you would have is that if you create
files before you connect to the Internet they may have
the wrong timestamp on them. Not generally a problem
but can be confusing.

Download Chameleon clock (free download) and evaluate it to death. It
compares itself to a number of atomic clocks around the world (you pick
which ones and how many), run the test to find the closest ones, and set it
to check them every hour or so. It adds the transit time and averages them
and updates the computer clock, takes care of daylight savings and checks
down to the millisecond, no more time stamp worries. Even has an option to
make it a wallpaper that has the month, day, phase of the moon, and the
constellation the sun is in with a map of world behind.
