crack-less platters (yeah!)

To everyone who replied to my cracking question both on and off the
list --a great big thanks. I unloaded my kiln this morning and platters
and shallow bowls were without cracks.
This is what worked: I put sand underneath as the platters were
slump molded --flat with no foot. I stacked 3 platters by putting
triangular kiln posts on their side on top of the bottom platter. Sand
under the posts for shrinkage. Next platter on top. I also put sand under
the shallow bowls.
Then I fired real slow and didn't even think about opening anything
until the next morning. Thanks again. Pamela Jo stamps@seasurf.com
