sandy clay and smooth glaze

deb, the sand and grog in my clay body does not
mean that my pots are not smooth. it has to do
with enough glaze application to cover it all.

no sandy bottoms in mugs.
just the textured foot ring.
that has to be ground a bit, and that is then ok too.

i layer most of my glazes. in fact up to four. much like
many potters, you cannot tell what the clay is like unless
you turn the pot over and feel the foot ring.

if you can feel the sandy texture of the clay..then
your glaze application is far too thin.

of course, i dip every pot i fire. and often four
dips. thick glaze.
