Some of you have been in touch with me about wanting to participate in a
shino firing workshop. Rather than write individually, I decided to post the
following on Clayart. Several people had to cancel and there is still space for
one or two more. This will be a 3 day firing working. All participants will
bring bisqueware and we will begin with testing shino-type glazes, mixing,
glazing, loading and firing. We will crash cook in order to unload the kiln on
Sunday.

This workshop is sponsored by the Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons and will be
held at Celadon Gallery, Water Mill, NY:

In this three day hands on workshop, we will attempt a magical adventure
with shinos and carbontrap, making, mixing, glazing, loading, and firing - and
lots of tall tales to keep up smiling. We will begin with an overview of
shino-type glazes from 16th century Japan to today, followed by a day of glazing
bisqueware made in advance by participants. The second day we will make pots
and stack the kiln, firing on the third day as we finish our pots. The
workshop will include discussion of glaze mixing, application and drying techniques,
kiln placement and firing schedules.

Friday - Sunday, July 18- 20
Members - $275
Nonmembers - $350
