I'm interested in possibly moving to Colorado and would like to check
it out this summer..
Does anyone know of places to stay, rooms to rent, house-sits, etc for
this August?
I also have a beautiful casita in Tucson I would be willing to swap
anytime.
I'd like to be somewhere where I would have access to a clay studio/
rec center.
Any recommendations?

Aside from the obvious choices of Denver and Boulder:

It's not the most scenic place on earth, but Pueblo, CO is awesome for clay.
The college has seven kilns and open studios. it also has a great clay
program. The Sangre de Christo arts center is a small, but well-curated
museum that includes a lot of craft, including clay. There are a bunch of
clay artists there, including some noted architectural tile makers (who's
name escapes me due to lack of coffee). I love Pueblo.

If you're looking for an art-y community, by all means, go to Salida. It's
been noted as one of the best art towns in america. there are plenty of
galleries, and, of course, the Arkansas river. There are tons of artists
there. If you can do a small town, that should be on the top of your list.
No clay studio, though.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of response on this one.

A couple of good places to work in clay are the Arvada Center for the
Arts ( www.arvadacenter.org )and the Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild
( www.arvadaceramicarts.org ). Arvada is sort of between Denver and
Boulder.
