I put Mason Stain #6407 (marigold) into a clear glaze for a beautiful
translucent yellow. It seems to work in all the glazes I've tried it in, and
it is probably the type of yellow you're looking for.

Kris --

I don't have any experience at ^11,
but I do note two things -- 6407 is
a Praseodymium-based stain, and that
stuff seems pretty stable most of
the time, and the Praseodymium
stains are much less expensive than
the others (usually about half the
price of the vanadium stains, for
example).

Mason does rate 6407 for a maximum
temp of 2300 F, but what that sometimes
means is it is less powerful above
that temp, not that it burns out
altogether. Since cone 11 is just
under 2400 nominal, it's probably
worth a shot.

Mason stain samples are only a
couple of bucks, so it's easy to
experiment cheaply.

If you do decide to try it, it'd be
interesting to hear your results.

Best wishes -- Steve Slatin

I use it at ^6. It's worth a test at ^11; the worst that will happen
is it won't work. Your supply place might have samples available. You
can also call up Mason Colorworks-- they were very nice to me when I
was having problems with a color, and sent me some samples to try.
They could probably tell you right off the bat if it will work.

It is more expensive, butI have used vandanium stain in Shino at cone
11 and it stays yellow.

I have been working on high alumina soda ash free Japanese style
Shinos and ko-shigaraki I clay. I call it "You Betcha"
Shigaraki. Next is mogusa shino clay. My residency show will
consist of Japanese samples and glaze counterparts in N.American
materials.

You can see Craig's rock crusher, Custer rocks and samples of
Ko-shigaraki and You Betcha Shigaraki here:

http://claycraft.blogspot.com/

Going up to New London in the morning. Craig is unloading the
anagama we fired last week.

Best to know what is in the stain (companies will list ingrediants) to see
if there are toxicity issues. Vanadium is toxic for instance.

Then you can decide if you need a stable glaze if used as a liner or to
keep it outside the pot.
